The Jets are officially on the hook for a chunk of WR Santonio Holmes' contract, making it unlikely the team will part ways with him.

According to the New York Post and ESPN New York, Holmes is owed $7.5 million guaranteed in base salary for 2013 because he is still on the roster on Wednesday.

Holmes already was guaranteed his 2012 salary of $7.75 million from the five-year, $45 million contract he signed before the 2011 season. Since he was on the roster the second day after the waiver period, which was Tuesday, he also gets his $7.5 million salary for 2013. Now, with the Jets owing Holmes $15.25 million in guaranteed money, it would be very costly to drop the former Steelers wideout.

Holmes had the least productive season of his career in 2011, catching 51 passes for 654 yards. He did tie a career-high with eight receiving touchdowns, though.

Early in the season, Holmes called out the offensive line and QB Mark Sanchez. Late in the season finale against the Dolphins, Holmes was benched. Holmes and Sanchez reportedly clashed in an after-hours wide receivers-quarterback meeting. Holmes stopped attending the meetings, which many saw as a sign of disrespect.

Head coach Rex Ryan told ESPN at the Super Bowl that Sanchez and Holmes spoke by phone and were attempting to schedule a sit-down.

It appears that the Jets will not re-sign WR Plaxico Burress. They did re-sign WR Patrick Turner on Tuesday, but the team still lacks depth behind Holmes, the team's top receiver.
