The Giants confirmed Tuesday that TE Jake Ballard suffered a torn ACL in the Super Bowl and that he will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Ballard had a breakout season for the Giants, catching 38 passes for 604 yards and four touchdowns. He was a top target for QB Eli Manning for much of the season, and he hauled in two passes for 10 yards before being hurt in the second half last Sunday vs. the Patriots.
With fellow TE Travis Beckum also sustaining an ACL tear in the Super Bowl, the Giants will have two tight ends rehabbing when training camp opens next summer. It is assumed, based on the injuries, that the position will be one GM Jerry Reese focuses on in free agency and the NFL Draft.
