Amid the confetti following the conclusion of Super Bowl XLVI, Giants LB Greg Jones flashed a ring. No, not his Super Bowl championship ring. An engagement ring.
According to The (Newark) Star-Ledger, the rookie bent down on one knee following the Giants' 21-17 victory over the Patriots and popped the question. His girlfriend, Amanda, of a little more than a year said yes. And then, according to Jones, the crying began.
"She was bawling," Jones said Monday morning. "I was like, 'I don't know how long she's going to keep crying.'"
Jones, a former Michigan State star, has known Amanda, said to be former Spartans basketball player Mandy Piechowski for three years.
"Just everything we've been through together," Jones said when asked about the proposal. "She has been here since Day One and she knew me long before everything else."
Jones was picked in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft, and began the season as a starter on defense. He also contributed on special teams, ending his rookie campaign with 31 tackles in five starts. He played in all of the team's games this season.
