The Patriots made their final transaction of the season on the eve of Super Bowl XLVI. New England released WR Tiquan Underwood and signed DE Alex Silvestro off the practice squad.
Silvestro, an undrafted rookie out of Rutgers, played in the team's win over the Dolphins in Week 16 and recorded two tackles. He was released on Dec. 29 and signed back to the practice squad on Dec. 31.
In five games for the Pats this season, Underwood had three catches for 30 yards.
The way we see it
This move makes it a near certainty that WR Chad Ochocinco — who played in only one snap against Denver in the divisional round and was inactive in the AFC championship game — will be active and involved in the offense. Silvestro is a candidate to be inactive for the game. If he is active, look for him to help in the sub-package.
