Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski, who's battling a high-ankle sprain, is expected to play in Super Bowl XLVI save for a "setback," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday morning.

Per the report, Gronkowski is expected to be limited in practice Thursday. He did not practice on Wednesday.

Gronkowski reportedly told the media Thursday morning that he didn't necessarily need to practice this week to play against the Giants.

The second-year tight end from Arizona has had a spectacular season, catching 90 passes for 1,327 yards and 17 touchdowns in the regular season and catching 15-232-3 in two playoff games. Gronkowski suffered the injury in the AFC title game vs. Baltimore.

The way we see it

The focus turns to Thursday's practice report and whether Gronkowski indeed participates. The Patriots have two more practices as they prepare for their seventh Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
