The Ravens hired former Colts head coach Jim Caldwell as their quarterbacks coach on Monday.

Caldwell, 57, was the Colts' QB coach from 2002-08 before becoming Indianapolis' head coach. The Colts were 26-22 in his three seasons at the helm but just 2-14 in 2011 with QB Peyton Manning missing the entire season with a neck injury. Caldwell has also coached quarterbacks in Tampa Bay (2001) as well as at Penn State.

"After spending considerable time with Jim over the last week, we think he will be an excellent fit with our team," said head coach Jim Harbaugh.

"It's a great fit for me, and I'm happy they saw it that way," Caldwell said. "I can't wait to get started with the Ravens."

Caldwell had interviewed for the Steelers' offensive coordinator vacancy after his departure from Indianapolis.

The way we see it

Caldwell's addition to the Ravens' coaching staff comes after Baltimore retained offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. Caldwell's ability to work with QB Joe Flacco will likely be key. Flacco and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron haven't always seen eye to eye.
