Peyton Manning will not be a Colt next season, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora is reporting, citing sources within the Colts' organization who said the decision was made some time ago.
Although the signalcaller and owner Jim Irsay attempted to "dispel any misconceptions" with their joint statement on Friday, assuring fans that they were "friends" and that there were no "hard feelings" between the two, that joint statement will not alter his impending departure, according to La Canfora.
The NFL Network insider said Friday on "NFL Total Access" that according to sources within the Colts, the organization "was planning to move on from Manning weeks ago, well before this public squabble between the quarterback and his owner."
La Canfora reported that the Colts will "almost certainly" make a move on Manning before the start of the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, which runs Feb. 22-28. This is the latest in a rather messy breakup between Irsay and the quarterback who stood under center for the Colts from the time he was drafted with the first overall pick of the 1998 draft, until multiple neck surgeries sidelined him for the entire 2011 season.
