The Browns have hired Brad Childress as their offensive coordinator, according to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network.

Childress was out of football in 2011 after being fired as the Vikings' head coach midway through the 2010 season. He spent four-plus seasons in Minnesota, with a 39-35 record as a head coach. His teams won the NFC North twice during that span.

Prior to leading the Vikings, Childress was an offensive coordinator for the Eagles form 2002-05. He also spent time in Philadelphia as a quarterbacks coach, working alongside Andy Reid with Donovan McNabb.

The Browns did not have an offensive coordinator last season, as head coach Pat Shurmur called his own plays. The team finished the season ranked 29th in the NFL in yards per game and 30th in points.

Shurmur worked as the Eagles' tight ends and quarterbacks coach from 1999-2006, when Childress was also on staff.
