Just a day after finding out NT Chris Hoke planned to retire, the Steelers learned that NT Casey Hampton will undergo anterior cruciate ligament surgery this week. The operation is scheduled for Friday.

Hampton told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette he suffered a a torn ACL in his left knee in the team's playoff loss to the Broncos on Jan. 8. At first the team believed he wouldn't need surgery to heal the injury, but following more examinations, they determined that would be the best method for repairing Hampton's knee.

This will be the third ACL surgery for Hampton and second on his left knee. The veteran tackle told the newspaper he wants to play next season, but there is a chance he would have to take a pay cut, as he is owed more than $8 million in 2012 and the Steelers are projected to be over the salary cap.
