The Patriots announced Thursday that they have signed TE Carson Butler to the practice squad.

The 6-4, 260-pound Butler spent the majority of the 2010 season on the team's practice squad and went to camp with the team this past summer before being released on Sept. 2. He originally was signed by the Packers as a rookie free agent out of Michigan in 2009.

He also has spent time with the Lions, 49ers, Bengals and Giants.
