For eight-plus years, Jack Del Rio was a mainstay in Jacksonville. As one of the longest-tenured coaches in the league, he had become a familiar sight on the Jaguars' sideline. This coming season, he might be pacing the sideline of Invesco Field at Mile High as the Broncos' new defensive coordinator.
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora cites league sources as expecting Del Rio to receive "serious consideration" for the position. He has experience with head coach John Fox, after serving as Fox's defensive coordinator in 2002 with the Panthers. That Carolina defense was one of the best in the league that season, allowing just 290.4 total yards per game, second in the NFL, and 18.9 points per game, the fifth-best total in the league.
Through Del Rio's first five seasons in Jacksonville, his defenses never ranked lower than 12th in the league.
