Panthers QB Cam Newton and Bears DE Julius Peppers were named to the NFC Pro Bowl roster Monday.
They replace Giants QB Eli Manning and DE Jason Pierre-Paul, who will not be available for the game because they advanced to Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants' win over the 49ers on Sunday in the NFC championship game.
Newton, the first overall pick in last year's draft, threw for a rookie-record 4,051 in the regular season and rushed for 14 touchdowns, which are the most by a quarterback in a single season.
Peppers will be heading to the Pro Bowl for the seventh time in his 10 NFL seasons. He started every game during the 2011 season, playing through an MCL sprain at one point, and recorded a team-high 11 sacks. He also had three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Peppers is the first Bears defensive end to make the Pro Bowl in back-to-back seasons since Hall of Famer and Super Bowl XX MVP Richard Dent (1984-85).
