As if the Cowboys' problems weren't big enough at cornerback, now comes a report that Mike Jenkins faces a 4-6-month recovery time for his recently repaired shoulder. Therapists will tell you that shoulders are some of the most tricky rehab assignments, and it possibly means that Jenkins won't see the field this offseason until training camp. The position is a need, and Cowboys officials privately have admitted during this past season that they missed in their chance to land one of the big prizes in free agency last offseason; there are few such blue-chip players available this March. But the Cowboys must do what they can at the position, likely both through free agency and the draft. Jenkins is hurt and must prove himself. Orlando Scandrick is capable but not a big playmaker. Terence Newman is almost certainly a salary-cap casualty. Rest assured, there will be two or three new faces at the position next season.
