Not long at all after the tragic drowning of Michael Philbin was confirmed this past Monday, I couldn't help but start wondering to what extent the death of Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin's son might set back the team in its rematch with the Giants this Sunday. Granted, the Packers have done an excellent job tackling adversity time and again, as far as overcoming injuries is concerned. But this obviously is a much different kind of adversity. It had gotten to the point that, by midweek, I was starting to think the Giants had a great shot at upsetting the Packers.
Then, on Saturday morning, I read this quote in an AP story from Packers starting OLG T.J. Lang, whose dad recently died after a battle with cancer: "It's tough to watch him (Joe Philbin) go through something like this. So we're doing our best to show our support for him, and I think the best way we can do that is go out there and execute and make some plays on Sunday. That's what he would want us to do. I think that's the best statement we can make as a team."
Prediction: Packers 33, Giants 22
