In a public appearance this week, Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he plans to be healthy and ready to return to the field following ACL surgery by the start of next season. Peterson is only two weeks removed from his surgery, so it is way too early in the process to say if he is on, or ahead of, schedule. In addition, the Vikings' staff has said it will be very smart with Peterson's rehab and not push or rush him through the process. What complicates the team's RB situation is that backup Toby Gerhart, who had his best stretch in the NFL late this season, suffered an MCL injury. That leaves the position rather bare. It will be interesting to see if the Vikings add some pieces as insurance or whether they show faith in late-season pickups such as Jordan Todman and Caleb King and give them a lot of reps in OTAs and minicamps to see just what they have.
