Chargers assistant head coach/secondary Steve Wilks is rejoining Ron Rivera in Carolina, according to a report on the San Diego Union-Tribune's website.

Wilks, who coached San Diego's defensive backs for three years beginning when Rivera was the team's defensive coordinator, will assume the same duties in Carolina, according to the report.

Rivera tried to hire Wilks a year ago, according to the Union-Tribune, but the Chargers wouldn't release him from his contract. San Diego recently promoted John Pagano to replace the fired Greg Manusky as its defensive coordinator after the season ended. Cris Dishman was the team's assistant secondary coach this past season, but it's uncertain whether he'll be promoted to fill Wilks' job.
