There's a lot of focus on how the Browns might proceed with RB Peyton Hillis, who's slated to be an unrestricted free agent after a disappointing season. But other key contributors, each of whom had better campaigns than Hillis, also have expiring contracts. MLB D'Qwell Jackson, who was outstanding in 2011 after missing most of the previous two seasons with triceps injuries, is slated to be an unrestricted free agent, as is PK Phil Dawson, who has been with the team since its return to NFL play in 1999 and scored more than three times as many points as any other Brown in 2011. Dimitri Patterson, the Browns' nickel cornerback, is also an unrestricted free agent; he had a bounce-back season after struggling somewhat as a starter with Philadelphia in 2010. Patterson's agent, Lance Courtney, told PFW that his client would be open to returning to Cleveland.
