Fired Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris told the St. Petersburg Times Wednesday evening that he has been hired by the Redskins to coach their defensive backs.

Morris, 35, has ties to Redskins GM Bruce Allen, who hired Morris from the college ranks in 2007 to coach the Bucs' secondary when Allen was GM in Tampa Bay.

Morris met with the Redskins last week and Mike Shanahan offered him a position on his staff. Morris also interviewed with the Vikings about their defensive coordinator position. Morris said that if a team wants to hire him as its defensive coordinator that Shanahan would let him out of his contract with the Redskins.

The Buccaneers had a 17-31 record in Morris' three seasons as head coach, including a surprising 10-6 mark in 2010.
