The Cowboys have hired Jets OL coach Bill Callahan to replace Hudson Houck, who is retiring after having coached for 29 years in the NFL, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Callahan, 55, reportedly is leaving the Jets after serving as assistant head coach/offensive line since 2008. According Nick Eatman of TrueBlueFanClub.com, a Cowboys source told him that Callahan turned down a similar offer to remain with the Jets. Callahan previously was the head coach for the Raiders and the University of Nebraska.
ESPN also is reporting that, according to a league source, Dallas is hiring Browns DB coach Jerome Henderson , who has spent the past three seasons coaching Cleveland's secondary.
Besides coaching the offensive linemen, Houck served as the running-game coordinator in 2011. He coached the Cowboys' O-line for 13 years during two different stints.
"I've had a great time, been part of a lot of winning teams, and I've enjoyed a lot of wonderful relationships," Houck told ESPN. "I plan on meeting with (Cowboys owner) Jerry Jones tomorrow to just express my gratitude for what he's done for me and my family. It's time for me and Elsie (his wife) to enjoy the grandkids even more."
Besides coaching the Cowboys, Houck coached the Rams, Seahawks, Chargers and Dolphins. He has coached many Pro Bowlers during his career.
