Saints RB Mark Ingram's rookie year didn't go according to plan.
He missed six games over the course of the season with two separate injuries and was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with turf toe, but we hear that the team wasn't discouraged by his introduction to the league.
The Saints traded a 2012 first-round pick and their 2011 second-round pick to get back into the first round and draft Ingram, so expectations became very high for him. It didn't take long for the Saints to become comfortable using Ingram in any situation, though. He showed humility and fit in well among his teammates. Although the injuries are said to be disconcerting for the team, it remains optimistic about his long-term potential.
The Saints have enough depth at the position to consider trading one of their backs, but we hear the club would be content to bring all four of its top rushers — Ingram, Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles and Chris Ivory — back.
