The NFL announced its players and rookies of the month for December and January, with MVP candidates winning offensive honors.
Patriots QB Tom Brady and Saints QB Drew Brees were the AFC and NFC's Offensive Players of the Month, respectively. Neither signalcaller lost a game in the last month of the season.
Brees, who broke Dan Marino's single-season passing yards mark on Dec. 26, threw 19 touchdowns and three picks in December and January.
Brady also passed Marino's mark and is second all-time to Brees. He threw 11 TDs and two interceptions.
Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul was named the NFC's Defensive Player of the Month. He had six sacks in December and January. In a 23-10 loss to the Redskins, Pierre-Paul had 16 tackles.
Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs was the AFC's Defensive Player of the Month. He had four sacks and four forced fumbles in the team's final five games.
Both Suggs and Pierre-Paul are candidates for NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Falcons WR Julio Jones returned from injury in a big way in December and was honored as the league's Offensive Rookie of the Month. He had 24 catches for 461 yards and six touchdowns in the five games to end the season.
49ers OLB Aldon Smith was named the Defensive Rookie of the Month. The pass-rushing specialist had 6½ sacks in the five games in December and January, including a 2½-sack performance on "Monday Night Football" in a Week 15 win over the Steelers.
