The Patriots released DE Alex Silvestro on Thursday, the team announced. Silvestro was called up to the active roster from the practice squad last week.
The undrafted rookie out of Rutgers was originally signed to the team's practice squad on Sept. 28. He played in his first NFL game on Saturday against the Dolphins and had two tackles. He played on the D-line and on special teams.
It is expected that Silvestro will rejoin the practice squad after going through waivers. The Patriots now have an empty roster spot heading into their season finale against Buffalo.
