The Dolphins announced Wednesday that they have placed Pro Bowl OLT Jake Long on injured reserve. The team signed RB Richard Medlin to take Long's spot on the 53-man active roster.
The 5-11, 200 pound Medlin had been on the team's practice squad. He was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on Aug. 3 and was released at the end of training camp on Sept. 3.
Long left Miami's Week 16 loss at New England with an arm injury, later revealed to be a torn biceps. He has dealt with several injuries this season, including a back ailment that forced him to miss two games.
OG John Jerry kicked outside to tackle after Long left the game last week and is expected to handle the OLT duties against the Jets in Week 17.
