The Bears announced Wednesday that they have signed OG-C Edwin Williams to a two-year contract extension, locking him up through the 2013 season.
Williams, a third-year veteran, is in his second year with the Bears after playing in three games with the Redskins as a rookie in 2009. He has started each of the past six games at left guard since Chris Williams was placed on injured reserve with a fractured and dislocated wrist.
Edwin Williams was due to become a restricted free agent after the season before signing the extension.
The way we see it
Williams has done a good job filling in when called upon in each of the past two seasons and could get a chance to compete for a starting job in training camp next year. He'll provide quality depth if he's not starting and has shown he's dependable if injuries create an opportunity for him to get some playing time.
