The Redskins waived RB Ryan Torain on Tuesday, ESPN Radio 980 in Washington D.C. reported. They promoted WR Aldrick Robinson to the 53-man roster.
Torain played in eight games with four starts this season. He had 135 rushing yards in Week Four, but only 65 yards in the remaining seven games in which he played. He had four rushes for eight yards and two catches for four yards in Week 16.
Torain has battled injuries throughout his career. In 10 games last season, he had 742 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Rookie Roy Helu took over as the Redskins' primary back and his backup, rookie Evan Royster, rushed for 132 yards in Week 16 with Helu out.
Robinson, a rookie out of SMU, has not played in an NFL game.
