Patriots OLG Logan Mankins will miss Sunday's game with a sprained MCL suffered in Saturday's win over the Dolphins, according to PFW correspondent and Boston Herald writer Ian Rapoport.
Mankins, who had started at left tackle in place of the injured Matt Light, left the game early. Mankins' goal is to return to the playoffs. The Patriots have a first-round bye.
The Pro Bowler has not missed a game because of injury since entering the NFL in 2005. He started all nine games he played in last season after holding out the first half of the campaign. He has 104 career starts.
OG Donald Thomas replaced Mankins on Saturday with rookie OT Marcus Cannon at right tackle and rookie Nate Solder replacing Matt Light at left tackle.
Shalise Young of the Boston Globe reported that the Patriots are likely to sign former Dolphins FB Lousaka Polite to play in short-yardage situations.
The way we see it
Mankins is a mauler and one of the league's best run-blocking guards. Missing him against the Bills on Sunday isn't a huge loss, but the Patriots will need him back for the playoff push.
