An MRI has revealed that Vikings RB Adrian Peterson tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the team's Week 16 game against the Redskins, the Vikings confirmed Saturday night.

Minnesota head coach Leslie Frazier will update the media about Peterson's injury at a press conference at 11:30 a.m. ET Monday.

Peterson suffered the injury early in the third quarter after being hit by Redskins S DeJon Gomes as Peterson burst through a hole, causing his left knee to bend inward. After the game, Peterson said he knew, "it was something bad" the moment he was hit and that he was in "severe pain" following the play.

Shortly after Peterson was carted off the field, Vikings QB Christian Ponder suffered a head injury and didn't return. Frazier said afterward that Ponder had suffered concussion-like symptoms and would be evaluated in the coming days.

Peterson and Ponder were replaced by Toby Gerhart and Joe Webb, respectively, as the Vikings upset the host Redskins 33-26.
