One of the lone bright spots for the Bills during their seven-game losing streak has been the play of second-year RB C.J. Spiller, who had been written off by many as a bust and even moved to wide receiver earlier in the season. With Fred Jackson on injured reserve, Spiller has been called upon to carry the load. Last week he rushed for 91 yards against a Dolphins defense that has been one of the league's best against the run.

We hear that while Spiller has enhanced his value, this stretch has also shown how valuable Jackson, who was hoping for a pay raise this offseason, is to the offense.

"(Spiller)'s not a 215-, 220-pound back like Fred (Jackson). You can't expect him to be one. If all his runs are edge runs, he might carry it 25 times," head coach Chan Gailey said. Spiller's light workload is also due to the fact that he barely played in the first half of the season.

Most teams use two backs, and this late-season run seems to have boosted Spiller's viability in the offense for next season.
