The Steelers announced Friday that Ben Roethlisberger, who is still nursing a sore ankle, will not start the team's Week 16 game against the Rams. Backup Charlie Batch, who has not started a game since Week Four of the 2010 season, will start in his place.
Roethlisberger, who is listed as questionable for the game, suffered the injury in Week 14 against the Browns. He attempted to play through in last Monday in a road loss to the 49ers, but threw three interceptions and had a noticeable limp.
Batch has started 52 career games, but the majority of them were during his first four seasons in the league while with the Lions. In nine seasons in Pittsburgh, this will be only his seventh time in the starting lineup.
