Resurgent season for Greene keeping Jets in hunt

The Jets' three-game win streak that got them back into the playoff hunt following their loss to the Broncos received a big boost from Shonn Greene and the running game.

Greene is having the career year many expected, despite a slow start to the season. Since Week 12, he is averaging 19.3 carries for 92 yards. The Jets are 4-1 when Greene has 20 or more carries.

We hear another reason for the success has been the screen game, an area in which we usually see LaDainian Tomlinson making big contributions. Greene had three catches in each of the three wins from Weeks 12-14. Greene has 27 catches, a career high.

Getting C Nick Mangold back healthy was a big help and the team also has used reserve OL Vladimir Ducasse in jumbo packages. One daily team observer pointed out the blocking of OLG Matt Slauson as part of the success. Greene's individual play has been very effective, and it will need to be down the stretch to get the Jets back to the postseason, as it takes pressure off QB Mark Sanchez.
