The Panthers placed starting CB Captain Munnerlyn on injured reserve Friday with a strained left hamstring.
Munnerlyn, a third-year veteran who had started all 14 games this season, was injured in the Week 15 win over the Texans.
He finishes the season with 58 tackles, five passes defensed, zero interceptions, two sacks and one forced fumble.
According to head coach Ron Rivera, Darius Butler, a waiver-wire pickup from the Patriots earlier this season, will start in Munnerlyn's place. R.J. Stanford will be the team's nickel back.
To replace Munnerlyn's spot on the 53-man active roster, the Panthers elevated CB Jonathan Nelson from the practice squad.
In addition, SS Charles Godfrey might miss the Week 16 game against the Buccaneers, as he's listed as doubtful with a strained right shoulder.
