With the likelihood growing that the Rams will shut down Sam Bradford for the rest of the season due to a lingering high ankle sprain, it's worth keeping a close eye on recently acquired QB Kellen Clemens. "I'm really impressed with what he's been able to do in such a short period of time," Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said of Clemens, who looked respectable in his first start in two years in place of Bradford in Week 15. With three previous NFL stints under his belt (Jets, Redskins and Texans), team sources believe Clemens has a decent shot at winning the backup job next season behind Bradford. "A.J. Feeley's contract is up at the end of the year, and Clemens is six years younger," said one team insider. "He has a certain savvy, gets rid of the ball quickly and can connect on the underneath routes. He did underthrow some deep balls in his first game, but I think his arm is strong enough."
