The Cardinals announced Wednesday that they have placed veteran OLB Joey Porter on injured reserve and has elevated LB Brandon Williams from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster.
Williams, 6-3, 250 pounds, has been on the Cardinals' practice squad since Nov. 22 after being cut by the Cowboys on Sept. 3. He played with the Cowboys in 2010, where he appeared in six games and had three tackles on defense and four stops on special teams.
He was originally drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2009 NFL draft out of Texas Tech. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Porter has been hobbled by a knee injury, and his time with the team is likely done.
The way we see it
Porter was on his last legs anyway and was unlikely to play much the rest of the season. Having never fulfilled the expectations that the Cardinals had for him, he had been cast aside this season by young OLBs Sam Acho and O'Brien Schofield.
