The Patriots placed DE Andre Carter on injured reserve Tuesday. Carter left Sunday's win over the Broncos with a quad injury.
Carter, a free-agent acquisition, led the Patriots with 10 sacks, 13 tackles for loss and 22 QB hits this season. Mark Anderson replaced him in the Broncos game and notched a pair of sacks and a forced fumble.
The team also signed DL Cedric McKinney to the practice squad. McKinney spent part of the 2011 season on the Vikings' practice squad.
The way we see it
This is a big loss for a Patriots defense that has struggled all season, and Carter is far and away the team's best pass rusher. He also was effective against the run, something Anderson is not known for. The team has an open roster spot and may add a D-lineman, or promote rookie Markell Carter from the practice squad.
