After making nine consecutive starts at free safety, Chris Conte became the fifth Bears rookie to land on injured reserve this season. Conte, a second-round pick, suffered an ankle/foot injury in Chicago's loss to Seattle on Sunday and was placed on I.R. Monday, bringing his season to an end.

He proved to be a solid contributor in his first season (30 tackles, two passes defensed, one interception) and figures to enter training camp next year as the first-string free safety.

The Bears' most high-profile rookie, first-round pick Gabe Carimi, was placed on injured reserve earlier this season and hasn't played since Week Two. The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday that Carimi will undergo another surgery on his right knee — he had arthroscopic surgery on Nov. 11 — and it will require four months to rehabilitate.

Sunday also marked, quietly, a resurgent performance by undrafted rookie WR Dane Sanzenbacher. He made two catches for 26 yards vs. Seattle after not making a catch in the previous six games. Sanzenbacher also made two tackles on special teams.

The Bears added another rookie to the active roster Monday, promoting RB Armando Allen from the practice squad. There are currently nine rookies on the 53-man roster.
