The Jets took hold the lead in the battle for the AFC's final wild-card spot, but it came at a hefty price. FS Jim Leonhard was carted off with a knee injury and he will miss the rest of the season.

The team announced Monday that Leonhard has a torn patella tendon. "You feel absolutely terrible for him... His leadership is going to be missed," said head coach Rex Ryan. "I think this is a setback. This is not going to be the end for Jim Leonhard."

Leonhard suffered the injury after picking off a pass at the start of the second quarter. It was his first interception of the season.

Leonhard had 48 tackles on the season. He missed the final five games and the entire postseason last year after suffering a knee injury in Week 12.

The Jets were 9-2 last season before losing Leonhard and finished the regular season 2-3. Brodney Pool will replace Leonhard in the starting lineup. New York beat the Chiefs 37-10 in Week 14 and if the season ended Sunday, would be in the playoffs.

The way we see it

As we saw last season, Leonhard means a lot to the Jets' defense with his leadership and communication on the back end. The Jets' have a couple teams that throw it well left on their schedule, the Eagles and Giants. This is a big blow to the defense and Pool and the rest of the unit will need to step up in Leonhard's absence.
