The Eagles placed WR Steve Smith on injured reserve Monday and promoted rookie DT Cedric Thornton from the practice squad to the active roster.
Philly signed Smith in the offseason. He had 11 catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. Head coach Andy Reid said Monday that Smith's knee swelled up on the team's flight to Miami and that he has a "deep bone bruise."
Smith played in nine games this season. He finished last season with the Giants on injured reserve, a year after tallying 107-1,227-7 receiving.
Thornton has spent the entire season on the Eagles' practice squad.
