The Vikings will be shorthanded on Sunday, as RB Adrian Peterson will be inactive. That's clearly a huge blow to an offense that has been inconsistent at best lately.

Peterson being out means more Toby Gerhart, and that limits the Vikings' ability to keep the Lions' high-octane offense off the field. And how that secondary is going to keep the receiving weapons, namely Lions WR Calvin Johnson, in check is anyone's guess.

Although the Lions also are banged up, missing several starters, including RB Kevin Smith, this one figures to favor the home team in several ways. Jim Schwartz's pledge to clean up the penalties and play a clean game also figures to keep the Lions from killing themselves.

Prediction: Lions 31, Vikings 17
