The Patriots downgraded C Dan Connolly, S Patrick Chung, ILB Brandon Spikes and RB Shane Vereen to out for Sunday's game against the Redskins.
Connolly (groin), Chung (foot), Spikes (knee) and Vereen (hamstring) were all listed as questionable on Friday's injury report. ORT Sebastian Vollmer had already been ruled out.
Spikes has not played since Week Nine but did return to practice this week. Chung has also been out since Week Nine.
The Pats released DB Sterling Moore earlier on Saturday, which led some to believe Chung was ready to return.
With Connolly out, it's expected that Nick McDonald will start again at center. There is a chance that ILB Dane Fletcher will return, which would help to fill the void with Spikes out.
The way we see it
Spikes and Chung are likely one week away from returning and are the biggest losses of the group. At safety, the Patriots have Nate Jones, James Ihedigbo, Sergio Brown and WR Matthew Slater, who started last week. Spikes would have helped against the Redskins' rushing attack. Bill Belichick is obviously being cautious with two of his top defensive players.
