Harrell a good bet to become Packers' future backup QB

The odds are growing that QB Graham Harrell, who has been promoted from the practice squad, will be the front-runner for the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers in 2012. What about current No. 2 QB Matt Flynn? Even though Rodgers has kept him mostly in mothballs this season, we hear Flynn, who is in his contract year, shapes up as an attractive free-agent option likely to go elsewhere rather than waste away behind Rodgers. Getting back to Harrell, who bypassed an offer from the Bills to remain with the Packers, there were some close team observers who thought he regressed somewhat this summer. But we're told Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is a fervent supporter of Harrell, who is among the NCAA's all-time leaders in passing TDs and completions. While Harrell does not have much mobility, his arm strength has steadily improved. We also hear he earns extremely high marks in the classroom.
