Here's a look at a key matchup heading into Sunday's battle between the Bears and Broncos.
Bears QB Caleb Hanie vs. Broncos secondary
He has yet to show that he can avoid making poor decisions with the ball, but the Bears are sticking with Caleb Hanie at quarterback and he will make his third-straight start Sunday.
Denver has picked off only nine passes this season — tied for 23rd most in the league — but its secondary is led by veterans, including CB Champ Bailey and S Brian Dawkins. It's unlikely they will miss an opportunity to get a takeaway if Hanie, who has been intercepted six times in the past two games, gives them a chance to force a turnover.
If Hanie hangs onto the ball too long before delivering a pass, underthrows receivers on deeper passes or tries to force a ball into tight coverage — all things he has done consistently — Denver has the playmakers in the secondary to make him pay. It was one of the less-heralded Broncos defensive backs, CB Andre' Goodman, that picked off Vikings rookie QB Christian Ponder last week late in the fourth quarter with the score tied at 32, setting up Denver's game-winning field goal.
