The Texans have released QB Kellen Clemens and placed P Brett Hartmann on injured reserve.

Clemens, signed on Nov. 23, never entered a game during his two-week stay in Houston, as he was inactive in both Weeks 12 and 13. Jake Delhomme, who was signed on Nov. 30, is the team's backup quarterback behind rookie T.J. Yates.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the team will sign veteran Jeff Garcia to replace Clemens on the depth chart.

Hartmann, a rookie, had a net punting average of 37.8 yards this season for the Texans. He tore his ACL in a non-contact injury. The Texans are expected to fill Hartmann's roster spot quickly and may sign Matt Turk, who was released by the Jaguars in October and was Houston's punter from 2007-10.
