Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman will not play in Sunday's game against the Panthers. Josh Johnson will get the start, ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported.

Freeman confirmed to Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times that he was out. "Josh is going to do awesome," Freeman told Stroud.

Freeman was listed as questionable on the injury report with a right shoulder injury. A third-year pro, Freeman had started 36 games in a row.

This season, Freeman has struggled, throwing 12 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, compared to a 25-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio last season. The Bucs are 4-7, having lost five in a row.

Johnson, a fourth-year veteran, has played in six games this season. He is 2-of-7 throwing for 14 yards and has five rushes for 17 yards. He started four games in 2009, throwing four touchdowns and eight interceptions. He rushed for 148 yards that season.
