After an outstanding 2010 and a good season so far in 2011, it would seem the Chiefs would be eager to extend the contract of WR Dwayne Bowe, the team's best offensive player, who will be a free agent after this season. However, according to a team insider, that's not going to happen anytime soon. Kansas City's front office and coaching staff still are worried about the wideout's inconsistency. Bowe, the club's first-round pick in 2007, has eight drops, according to STATS LLC, which is tied for fifth most in the NFL. And his effort was widely questioned after he failed to reach for a pass late in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs' Week 12 loss to the Steelers that was intercepted. We hear that Bowe is likely to be franchised by the Chiefs instead of being extended. That will allow the team one more season to determine if Bowe is worthy of a long-term, big-money contract.
