The Seahawks will place Sidney Rice on injured reserve, head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday. To take his spot on the roster, the team promoted LB Mike Morgan from the practice squad.
Rice, who signed a lucrative contract with Seattle as a free agent in the offseason, left Sunday's loss to the Redskins with a concussion and did not return. He had 32 catches for 484 yards and two touchdowns this season.
Morgan signed with the Seahawks as a rookie free agent this past offseason. He has not entered a game this season.
The way we see it
Rice was the big move the Seahawks made in the offseason, signing him to help ease QB Tarvaris Jackson's transition to Seattle. But injury problems have limited Rice's production in 2011.
The Seahawks appear to be taking the careful route with Rice, making sure he is ready for 2012 knowing that a playoff run this season is out of reach.
