Falcons head coach Mike Smith said Wednesday that starting CB Brent Grimes will be sidelined for an undetermined amount of time after minor knee surgery.

According to Smith, Grimes has been dealing with the injury for a while and it finally got to the point where a surgical procedure was required.

"He's been doing everything in his power to get back out on the field," Smith said, according to the Falcons' website. "He's been playing with it. Right now, he will be out for a couple of weeks. He's going to have a minor procedure done on his knee. We don't know the time frame in terms of getting him out. Brent's been fighting through it for some time."

In addition to Grimes, CB Kelvin Hayden, DE John Abraham, TE Tony Gonzalez, C Todd McClure, LB Stephen Nicholas, WR Julio Jones, RB Michael Turner and DT Vance Walker missed practice Wednesday.

"Kelvin Hayden is probably very doubtful for the game this week with a toe injury that was sustained two weeks ago," Smith said. "He was inactive this week."
