OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Chris "Beanie" Wells / RB / Arizona Cardinals

Wells gave the Cardinals their first lead of the game in the third quarter, rushing seven yards for a touchdown, but he would need to redeem himself before the Week 12 contest with the Rams was over. He coughed up a fumble in the fourth quarter, which set up a Rams TD that tied the game at 20 with 7:51 to play. Wells didn't let that mistake become his defining moment. He broke off a 53-yard run on the next possession, putting the Cardinals in position to kick a short field goal and take a lead they held for the rest of the game. Wells gained 8.4 yards per carry and had set a career high for rushing yards in one season before time ran out. The third-year back finished with a franchise-record 228 rushing yards on 27 attempts as Arizona won for the third time in its past four games.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Connor Barwin / OLB / Houston Texans

The high-powered Texans offense needed a little more help than usual from its defense in Week 12 with rookie QB T.J. Yates coming on in relief of injured starter Matt Leinart, who was making his first start of the season in place of Matt Schaub, late in the second quarter. Barwin stepped up, giving the finest performance of his three-year career. The Texans, who had seven sacks in the game, spent the afternoon in the Jaguars' backfield, but no one was more disruptive than Barwin. He recorded a franchise-record four sacks for a loss of 32 yards, had a career-high 10 tackles (seven solo), five total tackles for loss and six QB hits in Houston's 20-13 win — the Texans' fifth consecutive win. The Jaguars' only touchdown came on a defensive score 1:22 into the contest.

SPECIAL-TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shane Lechler / P / Oakland Raiders

The Raiders boast one of the best kicker-punter combinations in the league, and while both Lechler and PK Sebastian Janikowski — who made a franchise-record six field goals — shined in Week 12, it was Lechler's booming leg that impressed us the most. He punted five times in the Raiders' 25-20 win over the Bears and consistently pinned Chicago — which needed all the field-position help it could get with Caleb Hanie at quarterback — deep in its own territory. The Bears started at their 16-, 3-, 17-, 20-, and 4-yard lines on the drives following a Lechler punt. He averaged 54.6 yards per punt (49.2 net) and RS Devin Hester was held to two punt returns for seven yards. Lechler had one touchback, but it was after an 80-yard punt that reached the endzone. The Raiders had no complaints about a punt with a 60-yard net.
