After firing defensive coordinator Larry Coyer, the Colts made a change at quarterback.

Head coach Jim Caldwell announced that seventh-year veteran Dan Orlovsly will start at quarterback over Curtis Painter, who had started the last eight games.

In his eight starts, Painter has thrown six touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has also lost three fumbles and completed 54.3 percent of his passes.

Orlovsky saw time in three games this season. He has completed 14-of-21 passes for 122 yards and no touchdowns. This will be Orlovsky's first start since Dec. 28, 2008 with the Lions. Orlovsly started seven games that season, when the Lions went 0-16.

Kerry Collins started the first three games of the season before landing on injured reserve. Peyton Manning remains on the active roster and it's unknown if he will be able to play this season.

The winless Colts face the Patriots on Sunday.
