Just two quarters into his first NFL start in two seasons, Matt Leinart's season ended with a broken left collarbone. Texans head coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that news on Monday, announcing the quarterback would be placed on injured reserve in the coming days.

Leinart, who was replacing the injured Matt Schaub in the lineup, was hit by Jaguars DE Jeremy Mincey during the second quarter of their Week 12 game and had to be taken out. He will undergo surgery later in the week. The team is expected to sign another quarterback in the coming days, and Kubiak would not rule out any free-agent signalcaller when asked on Monday.

Rookie T.J. Yates will be the starter in Houston's Week 13 matchup vs. the Falcons. Veteran Kellen Clemens, signed last week when Schaub was placed on I.R., will be the backup.
