The Giants have never placed a great emphasis on the LB position in the offseason, as their defense has been predicated on creating pressure up front and playing a physical brand of coverage in the back end. And yet, it's interesting to note that one of the Giants' few free-agent splurges in recent season was Michael Boley and that his loss to the lineup is creating some mix-and-match situations that are exposing the team's lack of depth there. The team emerged from training camp with two undrafted rookies, Mark Herzlich and Spencer Paysinger, and two low-round draft picks, Greg Jones (sixth) and Jacquian Williams (seventh), as their primary backups. Now those four players have stepped into key roles with injuries to Jonathan Goff and Clint Sintim, which were both season-enders, and to Boley, who is expected to miss the game against the Saints in Week 12.
